B325: The 2008 U.S. National Alhambra Championship. In Granada, one of the most impressive building projects of the Middle Ages has begun: the construction of Alhambra. Build the most splendorous Alhambra to be crowned the winner! Players may play in any or all of the four preliminary sessions, but may only qualify once. The winner at each table will advance to the final rounds to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 1A of 3; All Materials Provided. This special Championship will incorporate five B-Movie decks from Z-Man Games, one per preliminary round. Players may play in any or all of the five preliminary rounds. The five winners of each of the preliminary rounds will face off in the final round with the sixth deck: "Berserker Halflings from the Dungeon of Dragons" for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! B327: The 2008 U.S. National Bootleggers Championship. It's January, 1921. Prohibition has been in effect for a year, and it looks like the 18th Amendment is here to stay. In Bootleggers, players take on the role of enterprising bosses seeking to make a name for themselves in the illegal alcohol trade at the height of the 1920's prohibition era. Deceit, lies, and alliances of convenience are the norm as players attempt to control distribution through money and corruption by muscling in on the competition, paying off the local law authorities, building underground speakeasies, and shipping trucks of "hooch"! Players may play in any or all of the three preliminary sessions, but may only qualify once. The winner at each table will advance to the final round to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 2:00AM; Session 1A of 2; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages. See Also: B579, B648. Next Session: B694.

B328: The 2008 U.S. National Palabra Championship. Palabra is a combination of words, poker and rummy - guaranteed to "release your mental endorphins." Score by forming a word, a straight (an alphabetical sequence of 3 cards), a flush (5 cards in one color/suit), building on a prior word or straight, or present 6 or 7 vowels. Because of many double and triple multiplier cards, which multiply upon each other, and "color-locking" (which also doubles the score), a small word or straight can be multiplied by 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, etc., and be worth 200 points or more! Stuck with a "Q," an "X," or a "Z?" Don't make a word. Put them in a straight or a flush. Did your opponent just make a 400 point combination? Don't fret. Cancel it with the "joker." Or steal any part of it for yourself. Players may play in any or all of the three preliminary sessions, but may only qualify once. The winner at each table will advance to the final round to play for the U.S. National Championship title and a trophy! Wednesday, 10:00PM - 12:00AM; Session 1A of 2; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Serious, All Ages. See Also: B454, B615. Next Session: B651.

B331: Circus Maximus. Violent and bloody, Circus Maximus details the chariot races that occurred in ancient Rome. Eight teams race around the track three times to determine victory. Players prepare for the race by selecting the composition of their team of horses, their rider's skills, and the type of chariot that will be driven. Once the race begins the players are free to do as they wish to hamper the other racers including whipping the rider, ramming chariots with scythed wheels, smashing into horses, and running over crashed opponents. B334: Hey! That's My Fish!. In this Mayfair game, players control a number of penguins. The penguins move over hex-shaped ice tiles with 1, 2 or 3 fish on them. The player takes the hex from where the penguin started his movement from the table, thereby creating a gap which other players can't cross. If a penguin can't move, he's taken from play. B336: Medici. Another Reiner Knizia standby, this game plays very well with varying numbers of people. The object is to accrue the most points during three rounds, which you do by spending your points to bid on sets of cards. Each turn the current player turns up one to three cards for all the players to bid on, with the highest bid taking all cards. The cards denote a commodity type and quantity/value. The round ends when each player's ships are full, or the commodity card deck is exhausted. After each round, points are awarded to each player having the most of a given commodity, and to the one with the most valuable total "cargo load". The Ticket to Ride Card Game delivers all of the excitement, fun, and nail-biting tension of the original Ticket to Ride board game, but with several unique game-play twists in a new stand-alone, card game format. Players collect sets of illustrated Train cards, which are then used to complete Destination Tickets - routes between two cities depicted on each ticket. But before their Train cards can be used, players must face the risk of "train-robbing," where another player may force them to lose their hard-earned cards. You want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. Around the building side, a city is slowly rising up. The players embody master builders. B377: Basari. Several games use the 'rock-paper-scissors' mechanism, but this Out of the Box game is perhaps one of the best. During a turn, players choose one of three different actions to perform. Otherwise players may have to either negotiate for the right to perform the action or just not perform any action that turn. Thursday, 11:00AM - 1:00PM; One Session; All Materials Provided. Beginners Welcome; Fun, All Ages.

B378: Blokus. In this abstract strategy with transparent, tetris-shaped, colored pieces players try to get rid of all their pieces. Whenever a building is completely rebuilt, its tile is turned back over to its rebuilt side. The players that helped with a building get crystals and dragon favours which can be traded in for crystals at certain times. But once they're standing, you can take your time building houses and palaces behind them. And if that goes especially well, the castles grow and merge with each other. To accomplish that, you only need some tactical skill and the right cards. But watch out: You need to sense when the best time to play your cards is in order to score the most points. B392: Clue II: the Great Museum Caper. Clue II: The Great Museum Caper involves a 3D board which is the floor plan for an art museum. One player is the thief, sneaking around undetected and attempting to steal priceless works of art. The other players are trying to catch him. They do this with motion sensors, security cameras, and their own eyes. The other cards instruct the players to "bluff", and they then have only a few moments to come up with a lie that sounds good. In turn, the players all give their answers, and then everyone votes on who they believe had the correct one. You get points if you guess the right answer, but more points for how many people vote for you. The fun comes from players spinning long yarns and tall tales, all while sounding like they're a scholar on the subject. Of course, the right answer often sounds the silliest of them all... When Cleopatra finally strolls into her new palace, at the end of the game, the most corrupt architect (the one with the most amulets) will be seized and offered as a sacrifice to her sacred crocodile! In the good old days, you could simply sit on your broomstick and fly off. But now, the flight pattern of the duster must first be properly programmed into the machine. Three seasons out of the year, you'll allocate dice you've rolled onto various royal court figures in exchange for items. These items can be used to help a player's future dice rolls, or they can help against the hordes of monsters and villains that attack at the end of every year. Of course, high dice rolls are better. B620: Can't Stop. In this Sid Sackson classic, there's a board with all the possible results of two six-sided dice: two through twelve. The object of the game is to move a little marker to the top of three columns by rolling that result, but you need many more seven's than you need twelve's, based on the likelihood of each result. During your turn, you roll the dice and place temporary markers onto the board. You can continue moving these markers until either none of your dice match (your turn is over and all progress you've made is gone), or cut your losses and end your turn (placing a permanent marker in your rows). Progression across the boards is determined by playing cards (many of which represent the characters and items of Middle Earth), and the effects of corruption are represented by a special die. This means that you are free to use all those words you always wanted to use in other word games, but were always one tile or card short! Of course, the letters in your word won't score if they aren't on the board, so even huge words can be stinkers if you don't use them at the right time.
